Text compare workflow tips

Text comparison is useful after editing product copy, prompts, release notes, documentation, CSV snippets, or plain text exports where a small line-level change can be easy to miss.

Clean noisy input first

If two drafts differ only because of pasted spacing, run Remove Extra Spaces, Normalize Whitespace, or Trim Lines before comparing.

Compare lists after sorting

For keyword lists, contact rows, or exported IDs, use Remove Duplicate Lines and Sort Lines Alphabetically before comparing list versions.

Measure the final version

After review, check the edited version with Word Counter, Line Counter, or the broader Text Cleanup Toolkit.

Quick FAQ

Does Text Compare upload my drafts? No. Both text boxes are processed in your browser session and are not sent to ClearUtils servers.

Is this different from Text Diff Checker? Text Compare is the simple comparison workflow page. Text Diff Checker uses the same browser-local comparison engine and is linked for users who search specifically for diff output.

What this tool does

Use Text Compare when you need a simple browser-local comparison between an original version and an edited version, with options to ignore case or spacing noise before copying the diff output.

Common use cases

Compare two pasted text versions to verify edits, list changes, documentation updates, or copied content differences before publishing or sharing.

Use Text Compare when pasted text needs counting, cleanup, rewriting, list preparation, formatting, or a final check before it goes into an email, document, CMS, spreadsheet, prompt, or publishing workflow.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original text into the first field and the updated text into the second field.
  2. Choose whether to ignore case, ignore whitespace differences, or hide unchanged context lines.
  3. Review added and removed lines, copy the comparison output, then clean or count the final text if needed.

Example workflow

Paste the text you need to count, clean, split, join, sort, or reformat. Review the word, character, line, sentence, paragraph, spacing, or list result, then copy the cleaned output into your document, spreadsheet, CMS, prompt, or editor.

Privacy note

Text Compare runs locally in your browser. ClearUtils does not upload, store, fetch, or log either text block.

FAQ

Does Text Compare upload my text?

No. The comparison runs locally in your browser and does not upload, store, fetch, or log either text block.

Can I ignore whitespace or case differences?

Yes. Enable Ignore whitespace differences or Ignore case before comparing when pasted formatting or capitalization should not count as a change.

What is the best workflow for comparing lists?

For lists, deduplicate and sort both versions first when order does not matter, then compare the cleaned lists so real additions and removals are easier to spot.
